Module 4.3 continues the introduction of tools for visualization and analysis with Gephi. Before beginning this module, continue developing your understanding of the graphical representation of data by reading the following article:
-
- Wickham, Hadley. “A Layered Grammar of Graphics.” American Statistical Association, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and Interface Foundation of North America Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics 19, no. 1 (2010): 3-28. doi: 10.1198/jcgs.2009.07098
After reading this article, begin by installing Gephi using the instructions here. Then, review Gephi for Analysis pt 1: Basics, created and narrated by Dr. Mel Stanfill, which will give you a tutorial of basic Gephi features, as well as instructions for importing the data you’ve gathered (see slides here). When you feel comfortable with the first steps of using Gephi, continue working through the module by watching Gephi for Analysis pt II (see slides here), which will introduce you to the more advanced features of Gephi. Following your review of Gephi for Analysis pt II, complete the Visualization Assignment.
Gephi for Analysis pt III will then provide you with instructions for incorporating diverse sources of data into Gephi (slides here). This will prepare you for using Gephi for diverse purposes in the future.
